Ten Cool Facts about Bald Eagles

1. Bald eagles are not actually bald. The word "bald" refers to the white feathers on the head
    of an adult bald eagle.

2. Male and female bald eagles are the same color. Bald eagles mature from the age of 4 to 5 years
of age and show the distinctive white head and tail markings. They have a bright yellow beak,
    yellow eyes and yellow legs.

3. Young bald eagles are mottled brown in colour with a dark beak and black eyes. They are
    sometimes confused with golden eagles.

4. Bald eagles soar in the sky with their wings flat, while a golden eagle soars with their wings
     forming a slight V shape.

5. A bald eagles wing span is up to 7 feet long making it one of the largest birds of prey in the world.

6. Bald eagles build HUGE nests. The largest one on record is 20 feet deep, 10 feet wide and weighed
    2 tons!

7. Bald eagles lay two white eggs each year and both parents spend time raising the fledglings.

8. A bald eagles life expectancy in the wild is 30 years. Some in captivity have lived up to 50 years.
